5 Decorating Mistakes Which Make Your Home Look Smaller
When it comes to home decor, every inch of the room matters. Arranging furniture at your home is one of the toughest and we all know about it. Here are some mistakes that make your house look smaller:
- Excess furniture:
Every room does not need a lot of furniture to make it feel so crowded. If there is a furnishing everywhere you turn, it makes the room cluttered and consume your moving space which is very uncomfortable.
Storage is the way to go in a small home. Move the furniture to other rooms in the house. Buy furniture according to the size of your room. The fewer pieces of furniture you have cluttering your rooms, the more spacious your place will feel.
2. Ornament Overdose:
Placing too many decorative accents will make a room look cluttered. Instead, edit the number of decor accessories and then decorate the table in a vignette style or create two groupings as in this photo. First, edit what you already have on the table top. Only display what you love and what is functional.
Create seasonal display of your favorite items and change them regularly. If you can’t bear to pack away your favorite trinkets put a shelf up especially for display purpose, group many small objects in a jar or bowl.
3. Misplaced Furniture:
Shoving furniture up against the walls makes a room look smaller rather than larger – strange, but true! There’s an easy fix: give your living room ‘breathing space’ by pulling the furniture away from the walls.
Pull the furniture away from the walls and toward the center of the room as in this living room seating arrangement. This grouping of four chairs around a coffee table creates the perfect conversation area. Ground the furniture with an area rug.
4. Bad Lighting:
Many rooms are only fitted with one main overhead lamp, which gives a single source of light making the space seem smallerIn any room in the house, you want different types of lighting for various times of the day.
In small spaces you want to use bright light, slender floor lamps or soft flight to make is received and opened up the expanse of the room. If you don’t have space for additional lamps use a mirror to reflect natural light around the room.
5. Too Much Colors:
When we decorate a room with too many colors it certainly make it look cluttered and messy and distracting to the eye. Use one or two colors combined with neutral colors to give your home a cohesive, relaxed look. Dark colored wallpaper makes the room look smaller because dark rooms absorb light.
The neutral-color walls, rugs, bedroom comforters, window coverings, and furnishings allow the room to breathe as well as make the room look more spacious and open. If you really want to use darker shades, limit them to a feature wall
